Pro or Am? College Coaches Must Choose!

20 Jan

Once again Nick Saban has reared his head and shown that his tenure in the NFL is bleeding over into the world of BCS football.  Now … it seems to work mind you, as he has won a few of the hallowed crystal trophies over the last several years.  But at what cost??  (more…)

Up And Comers!

6 Jan

The business of recruiting seems to take on new extremes and new heights as each new Senior class bids sayanora to the world of secondary education and is welcomed to a new world full of new opportunities and temptations.  From one year to the next all the media outlets including ESPN, SI and Fox Sports, who went so far as to invest heavily in Scout.com, an on-line recruiting service, are jumping on the bandwagon pooling extravagant amounts of resources to this industry.  It’s a big hairy deal these days and many of the kids aren’t prepared for what lies ahead (more…)

Tebow Take!

13 Dec

Tebow did it again!  That crazy Urlacher tagged running back for the Denver Broncos reached down deep, pulled his assigned team from oblivion and declared them to be the victors over the Chicago Bears on this past Sunday.  This guy will not allow his franchise to be defeated … he will not allow the NFL to be taken over by the (more…)

Tough Guys!!

27 Nov

The LSU Bayou Bengals and the Georgia Bulldogs are set to come to blows this Saturday as NCAA Championship weekend is upon us.  Both teams have on all accounts either met or exceeded expectations for this year.  They each come to the table with a top 5 nasty defense and offenses with weapons to beat you!  Coach Richt has talk of extension ringing in his ears replacing the chatter (more…)

What a Story!!

9 Nov

I know many of you have probably seen the story of Jason McElwain, but it deserves another look.  In the days where sports has so many negative vibes and it seems that only the turmultuous gets the pub, it’s refreshing to catch a story such as this!  As story of transformation and hope.  A story of glory!!

One For the Ages – Alabama vs. LSU

One For the Ages – Alabama vs. LSU

It’s not often that a game like the one between #1 LSU and #2 Alabama comes around.  However, this matchup may be completely unprecedented in that it’s a regular season gridiron battle.  The only game of recent that can come close to comparing is the 2006 Championship game between Southern Cal and Texas.  The USC/Texas game resembled an old fashioned shootout at the OK Corral … I think this (more…)

SEC Weekly Rewind – West Side, Week 3

20 Sep

After neglecting the SEC West for the first 2 weeks (my bad!!) check out the first Rewind West style for the 2011 season.

Alabama vs. North Texas

Once again the Alabama Crimson Tide cruised to a stress free victory over the North Texas Mean Green after handily dispatching overmatched foes both weeks prior.  Running back Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy traded in their spikes for track shoes as they rushed for 167 and 161 respectively (more…)

SEC Weekly Rewind – East Side, Week 2

13 Sep

Many mavins say that teams make the most improvement between weeks 1 & 2 … so, here we are at week 2 … let’s see if that holds true!

Let’s start with the match up of the week in the SEC East – UGA vs. USC

Georgia vs. South Carolina

Considering the history of this rivalry, this game could be counted on to be a burner from start to finish … and it didn’t disappoint!  South Carolina is learning how to win while Georgia seems to be going (more…)

SEC Weekly Rewind – East Side!

6 Sep

Ok … here we go with the first installment of SEC Rewind for week 1, 2011!  We’re going to blast through each game touching on the highlights/lowlights … whichever is called for.

South Carolina vs. East Carolina – primo tune up game for next week in Athens.  The Gamecocks faced some adversity and when Spurrier saw trouble, starting quarterback Stephen Garcia was inserted into the game – he had been benched to start (you know how Spurrier works at times) and at Garcia’s arrival South Carolina rolled.  After East Carolina jumped on their South-side bretheren for a 17-nil score, Garcia entered, and the Gamecocks outscored the Pirates 56-21 for a 56-37 final score. (more…)

LSU Tigers – Bayou or Bust!

LSU Tigers – Bayou or Bust!

The 2011 version of the Bayou Bengals open up against a very viable Oregon Ducks football team in Arlington this coming Saturday afternoon.  Up until 2 weeks ago Les Miles had his full forces to go to battle with … now not so much.  The hiring of Steve Kragthorpe as offensive coordinator and the paring down of the offensive playbook a bit had Jefferson on the cusp of a break out senior season (more…)
